Characteristics of biome are clearly and thoroughly described:
Biome Description:Deserts are hot and dry biomes with very little water. They contain a variety of small animals and small to large plants. Water evaporates and organisms living there have special instincts and adaptations in order to survive.
Location: All around the world, in areas such as Northern (and sothern)Africa, Southern Asia, the west of South America, Southwest of North America, and the majority of Australia.
Each category includes general description , an adaptation, and a picture
Five (5) Producers with adaptations: Cactus: Holds water inside and in it's roots. Shrub: Long roots that absorb ground water. Chain fruit Cholla: Long, spread-out roots(which also absorb ground water) Phreatophytes: Can reach down very far (as 30 ft.) to suck up water. Creosote Bush: Drought-tolerant, can live thousands of yrs. old.
Three (3) Herbivoreswith adaptations: Camel: Stores water in it's humps to survive, Jackrabbit: Huge ears help them get rid of body heat, Oryx Leucoryx: Lives in groups, led by a bull, moves towards rain to find food.
Three (3) Carnivores with adaptations: Rattlesnake: Venomous bite, rattle on it's tail, Fennec Fox, Fast, big ears for hearing, Scorpion: Fast legs, flexible, stinger injects poison into prey.
Three (3) Omnivoreswith adaptations: Coyote: Can eat spoiled(dead) meat, looses winter coat in late spring, summer coat is very thin. Spadefoot Toad: Spends a month every year underground. Raven: Intelligent, builds nests on high elevations (like cliffs) so it can spy and capture it's prey.
